5600 Triple Chainset

Hi All,

I've recently built up a 2012 Defy frame with a groupset I already had. I've had issues setting up the front mech, initially I couldn't get the mech (also a 5600 triple) to sit high enough to clear the big chain ring. I "adjusted" the braze on bracket to raise the mech a little higher but it still doesn't seem quite right. I used both this mech and chainset on a another frame without issue (though using a band on adapter).

Am I right in thinking that the triple 5600 chainset only came only came with a 50t big chain ring? Mine has a 53t and was like this when I got it (second hand?), could this be causing me issues?

I'm tempted to change to a double anyway (I live in Norfolk after all...). Any good value chainsets that will work well with a 9 speed set up? (I'm using Ultegra 6500 shifters and rear mech).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

I have a 5603 chainset with 50/39/30 chainrings. Looking on Shimano TechDocs they appear to be the only rings listed.

For the 5600 Double chainset they list 50, 52 and 53 tooth outer chainrings.

Don't think the triple front mech is designed for bigger than 50t...

I think you are right, I've done a little digging and I think the outer chain ring is an Ultegra item from a double.

Looks like I'll be looking to swap this over or do I go to a double? Hmm
