After much deliberation and looking around I finally took the plunge and bought a bike at the weekend.

I though I was all set to buy a Planet X, Merlin Malt-R or a Ribble pro Evo, but to be honest 1 of the suppliers was not very helpful and the others I get were a bit misleading with spec or a bit "we don't need to try and sell you a bike as they are such great value".. Anyway I digress!

I had spied a Giant TCR composite 3 in Spokes in Dundee last year, I went in again this weekend to see the Defy bikes and noticed they still had it.. I asked the price and was told he could do it for £900... I was happy with that so bought it! Collect it on Saturday and can't wait..

Although why does the Giant website and numerous retailers state it has 105 shifters and rear mech when it has Tiagra?

Anyway, glad I went into Spokes now, very happy with service and price and I'll be there for future business. Can't wait to get back on a bike.

You won't regret it. TCR frames are very stable and forgiving... I should know my handling skills are honkin! It will climb well too. You live in a great part of the world to enjoy your new Giant, Best of luck. :D
Why tidy the house when you can clean your bike?

The composite 3 appears to have Tiagra from what i can see, both 2012 and 2013 models. To get 105/Ultegra mix you have to upgrade to the 2. What tear's model is it? £900 is a good price so no need to worry unduly, you can always upgrade at a later date. personally I don't like the Tiagra chainset but that is purely cosmetic.
  • A carbon Giant with Tiagra for £900 is a bit of a bargain and you were right to snap it up, it's a great bike, my mate rides one with 105 and I think he paid a lot more for it.

Hope the weather is kind to you at the weekend.

Cheers dudes. It is a 2012 bike, I'm happy enough with Tiagra just found it weird that Giant list it with 105.

I'll upgrade the shifters and mechs when required, I'll be getting carbon bars this year as I get pins and needles and numbness from road buzz so may just do the shifters at the same time.

I don't mind the Tiagra chainset.. But this has FSA.. Which I'm not a fan of at all. However as long as it works it will be fine. Yeah very impressed with the deal I got, the reviews for the frame are good and it is ripe for upgrading.

Glad I spend the extra and went carbon, I think I'd always wish I had spent the extra.. I'm quite lucky with my location, I live 2 minutes from some really quiet country roads and 30 - 40 mins from a number of Glens so plenty riding to be had. I come from an MTB background but just got a bit scunnered with it. I have had road bikes before but never a carbon one.

Forecast SNOW for the weekend though!!!! Grrrr.

Spokes - another decent and helpful LBS. I'm guessing you're on the north side of Dundee or thereabouts Miked, definitely counts as "lucky with location", enjoy the great roads round about.

Yeah I was well impressed.. Not in your face like another shop in Dundee, knowledgable, polite and open to some bartering..

I used to live up near Fernbrae Hospital but recently moved out nearer Ballumbie (not Whitfield tho.. Incase your a Dundonian). Nice and handy for all the quiet roads around Monikie, Crombie, Forfar etc.

Ahh, that'll be "North Broughty Ferry" then ;-)

    West Ferry to you

How very rude! My West Ferry postcode is insulted..

Seriously tho.. Of all the weeks for it to:

    1- Snow
2- Be stuck away all week with work so no chance of picking it up early
    3- Get manflu
4- Dislocate my shoulder at work...... AGAIN! (Need to get that sorted I think)
5- have crap weather forecast for weekend

Meh... Whatever! I'm going out on it anyway. Just need to track down another helmet now, I have one but the lock system at the back to hold it in place is playing up.

Budget tight at £50... Any good ones?
