Hi people

the time has come for me to get a decent back pack i am fed up with getting a sweat back !!!!! i do rides that are roughly 4-6 hours long i carry the usual items multi tool inner tubes ect ect. What makes / models are good.

Also as a side note, what are the benifits of getting a bag that is bladder compatable?

Sounds obvious but is quite simple in that the backpack can fit a drinks bladder if you want it. Personally is my preference for longer MTB riders, but have purchased a small pack with a small bladder for short runs & find it quite good too.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Your back will sweat with any pack.

Both very valid comments. I find the semi-rigid but shaped back of my Dakine Nomad much better for avoiding hideous sweats than previous offerings from other companies. It's also compatible with a 3l bladder and is the best organised pack (space, 180deg opening pockets, compartment organisers etc.) It's my "go to" pack for that kind of longer trip.

I have one of these and it works.

You can just about see on the middle thumbnail pic that it has a "air mesh" linner with a rigid panel that keeps the bag itself away from your back, I bought this for walking but I've used it on the bike a few times when i need to carry more stuff, it's hydropack compaitible too. I think i paid abot £55 online for mine.

I've noticed that berghaus and a few other makers have stolen the idea, there maybe some cheaper options out there.

Excellent pack this i use one for mountain walking but a bit big and heavy for 4-6hrs MTB

I use a Berghaus Remote 8+4, which fits a 2l bladder just fine and has a zipped expansion gusset which means that it's still compact and things don't move around when less full for shorter rides. The harness and ventilation are pretty good too. The only real let down is the lack of a waterproof rain cover.

I use a Karrimor Airspace & a 2 litre bladder most of the time.
