Pot hole finaly killed of Hope hub

On the way into work tonight I hit another pot hole and pinched punctured my back tyre. So in went a new inner tube but the wheel is a bit buckled but made it in to work. On closer inspection the Hope hub has finally given up and a spoke has broken out and ripped the edge of the flange out. Just had the hub rebuilt last month with new bearings as original set had finally worn out after 15000 miles.
Annoyed with myself as not reported potholes nearby so don't know if worth claiming of the council.
The wheel was specked to last hence the hope hub, 28 spokes and a strong rim also a Paul Hewitt hand built and repaid it as well.
Anyone else trashed there wheels this winter on a pothole?

I have a small graveyard of broken rims that people have brought in to fix... Interesting pothole damages and sidewall wear caused explosionsleft the forum March 20230

Worth checking the flange to see if there is sign of wear around other holes. If not then it must have been one hell of a bump!
Worth a letter and photos to council. Someone else may have reported it.0 -
Road salt can damage alloy hubs. Do you clean your bike?
Worth sending it off to Hope, there's a good chance they'll sort your hub (you'll still need a new wheel rebuild though)0 -
bust a spoke a couple of months back on a pot hole, but the tyre didn't let go. I just unscrewed the spoke and rode home slowly. I was able to replace the spoke, but could only get a cheapy and it doesn't match the rest. Managed to true the wheel without too much effort.
Hitting Pot holes is the biggest barrier to me spending decent money on wheels. When a lot of your training in the dark it can be hard to see them.0 -

You can invest in bigger size tyres... 28 or even 32, they are the real rim-saverleft the forum March 20230 -
Worth taking hub into Hope dealer or contacting Hope. I have seen them replace hubshells and complete hubs from similar damage. Out of interest how was the wheel laced?0

The wheel is back at Paul Hewitt’s who have built and rebuilt the wheel several times now. I don't know the lase pattern but the wheel was purpose built for me on his recommendations.
I just hope that a nice fellow at Hope will fix it and save me a bit of money.
I don't know if the rim is damaged yet.
As for the pot hole, is on my regular rough and never spotted it before, but where it is I looking more for traffic than potholes, and not on http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/ and I do report a lot through this site.
Just had the bearing replaced in it last month as well.
The bike is cleaned but not enough, and yes winter is very had on bikes but it is this hub 4 winters, and that was part of the requirements of the hub, and it's not done too badly.0 -

Take a photo of this pothole. If unable to then obtain a photograph of a very similar looking pothole and report the incident to the local highway authority. Claim for damages. Hoped you kept receipt.
Only obtain pic of another pothole only if the one that damaged your wheel has already been filled in and you still intend to claim.0 -
I use a hedcam so will check the file later as on another bike tonight to see if I can see it. but it was twilight when I came in to work.0

Doesn't that defeat the point of having better quality wheels?0 -

It does... but for winter use, when it is dark and there are more potholes it is a good idea to increase the tyre size... you can always go back to 23 in the springleft the forum March 20230 -
Fairly common failure on the hope hubs, if they;re not too old then warranty shouldn't be an issue.0
