What can £650 buy me?

Hello all.

I am in a bit of a pickle with which bike to buy.

I have just gone through the cycle scheme and got a quote from cyclesuk.com for a Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc 29er 2013 for £500.00.

Now I was told that I can get more value for money with other brands.

In this line of thought, what can I get better if I stretch my budget up to £650.00, from the above store "cyclesuk.com".

Please note that I prefer hydraulic brakes and the gear shifter must not be the one which part of the handlebar, the one you swivel from and back. I like the shimano click ones, thumb to gear up and index to gear down.

Please let me know what are the best choices at the above store.

Many thanks.
Albert

What other shops can you use?
If I had to I would pick this

But you could do better for less - see the sticky at the top of Buying Advice.

I wouldn't touch that Specialised. Nasty for, very basic kit.

Best option is to be this shop as I have already engaged the cycle scheme with their quote.

Nevertheless, I shall have a word tomorrow with cycle scheme to see what can be done.

If I could I would go for the BIG.NINE TFS 300 but they don't stock this.

In all a better bike than the Specialized no?

    Thank you.

Loads of shops use Cyclescheme. I can't see why you need be restricted to that one.

The reason being that I have already submitted my quote from this shop to the cycle scheme and from what I was told by other shops is that they can't accept a voucher with a quote from another shop.

I have contacted two shops and was also told that I can't even change the bike I had the quote to.

Ate the very least cyclesuk can do this so I can always get a more expensive bike and pay the difference if I change my mind from the original quote which I already have.
