Anodising of aluminium frame?

I have an old battered trek 1.1 frame in the garage, no dents just surface scratches etc and wondered about getting it anodised and 'restoring' it, I need a bike come September for commuting etc so would have time to build it up with some sram gear etc, I just wanted to know if anyone has had any frames anodised? Shouldn't interfere with threads and tolerances should it either?

Any feedback welcome!

I have used a lot of anodised aluminium. The end result will be fantastic but it will need stripping and polishing first to get a great finish. If your happy to strip the bike yourself I would expect it to be a fairly cost effective job. Take pics and post them up if you get the chance.

'old & battered' does not lend itself particularly well to anodising, which is best done when new. The amount of prep and polishing you would need to get a decent anodised finish on an old frame would probably make the cost prohibitive. I would go for a paint finish - although to be honest, even the cost of that would be probably more than the frame is worth. Might be a better idea to look for a new frame - plenty of fairly cheap alu frames out there.

The increase in thickness is minimal - of the order of 10-100 nanometers. It will not intefere. Should you do it.
