am not all that happy with my avid elixir 5's have bled them twice (brand new six months ago) and still they are feeling squidgy, and i have gone through a bunch of pads already, so i am thinking, seeing as i have a bundle of cash burning a hole in my pocket i am gonna look to get some different brakes (and move these onto my hard-tale) any suggestions - i am looking at:
SLX
XT's

Pads are to blame for wear - good ones will last the same on these or any other brake.

But if you want to change, Deore and Magura MT2/Mt4 are good value.
  • magura's are on the list, would definately pay a bit more for good stoppers that are a little less weighty than the slx/xt's, have been looking at the Formula Rx's any good/bad points to either of these options?

Shimano slx ...... Best price/performance currently available. Formula RX are over priced..... And IMO need more attention whilst undergoing maintenance and bleeding etc.

xt's if you have the cash, and for the small premium over slx you may as well have the xt's imo.
  • I traded my Avids in for SLXs. Best upgrade I've made, great performance and easy maintenance.

I replaced my Avid X0's with Shimano Deore's. Heavier but much more power, control and reliability for a quarter of the price of the Avids.
