Assos - True value for money

I guess the word "typo" doesn't appear in your vocabulary?0

Are you accusing me of lying?
Let me confirm, it was winter LL bibtights that were repaired. Why would I lie about it?
Th original post was made back in the day when Raffles (where did he go?) was always harping on about value for money and how expensive brands were a waste of money. I was just pointing out that value should be judged by more than simply the sticker price.0 -
Even if robbo has made up an elaborate but flawed story about having his bib shorts, er tights repaired, Assos still repair them so what difference would it make?0

They repaired mine, I paid postage to Assos, no need for tracking, without the repair they were worthless, back in 15 days superb almost as new.0

Ive a pair of Assos 3/4 bibs that are about 5 years old, they've been on holiday back to Assos 3 times... damn ice! The only thing they've returned to me un-repaired was a windproof that was shredded on every panel, broken zip etc. The rest of the kit in that parcel was repaired perfectly.
Must stop crashing0 -
Actually, I have bought Assos bibs, and been so disappointed I insisted on a refund.
For women, they do this wierd thing supposed to be making going to the toilet easier - they have a clip at the front of the bib, apparently, it can be undone and you can drop the bottom half without having to do the usual complete strip off (I am still sceptical that this even works)
BUT, it is crap, I could not get it to do up and *stay* done up. They would ping open at unexpected times, with some considerable speed and force. The first time I wore them, I nearly garroted myself several times on the way up a col. I didn't want to stop, but I couldn't carry on whilst being strangled. About 5 strangulations later, I finally made it up to the top. On the descent I nearly killed myself when the bibs twanged at speed into my throat again. Poor design doesn't even start to describe it. It wasn't just me, several people gave me a hand to do the clip up - we all failed.
I do however have another set of regular Assos bibs, and several 3/4 tights (knickers as Assos call them) and all of these are great, and excellent value for money. I was dubious, I resented spending the money the first time, but I find that a day with anything over 1000m of climbing or 100km of distance, you'd pay pretty much anything to be comfortable and protect your lady (or gentlemen) bits .....0 -
Great kit - the only trouble - I can't seem to wear it out, so when something is updated - I have to sell the old one of eBay!! Socks especially seem to last forever. I ride around 8-10,000 km a year too.
I had a strange issue with their full on winter jacket - The Fugu. The fit was rubbish, snug on the chest but the bottom bit all loose and wasn't keeping me warm because of the gap/loose fit. They asked for it back and took some of the material away. Now fits like a glove and can't see the alteration. Excellent customer service.http://www.fachwen.org

So the nay sayers continue to disbelieve. It is a well known fact that Assos will repair damaged kit FOC. A friend sent a pair back that were beyond repair, so they offered him a new pair at half price, which he gladly accepted. He had no receipt for the originally purchased shorts, which may have been a factor in the 50% offer on replacements. As he was going to throw the original shorts in the bin until I mentioned the free repair service he was more than chuffed.
How anyone can belittle this kind of customer service I really can't understand. When you buy a piece of their kit you accept that you are paying for this service also, so you may as well make use of it. Their kit is expensive, no denying it, but the quality is pretty much the best on the market, the products are superb in my experience due to the R&D that you are also paying for and I keep going back to it. I try cheaper and other expensive gear and some of the other expensive gear is good, but the cheaper stuff simply doesn't quite match for quality or fit - but that could be me and my dimensions!
I find my club Endura kit pretty badly cut (jerseys all bunch at the front when in the riding position), gilet similarly and the club skinsuit is simply crippling on anything more than a 50TT...the pad is crap and causes a sore in the same place every time...
I know which brand I will keep choosing...

yeah i have an 851 jacket, having been too tight to buy one before and bought cheaper jackets which didn't seem able to get the balance of being wind proof but breathable right i saw the 851 on a deal i think £140 so still a fair bit i was well impressed and have worth it pretty much every winter weekend since i got it 3/4 years ago and would buy again, i am not so keen on some the their styling on the newer jackets prefer a more understated look myself0
