Hi guys, looking for some opinions on which groupset to go with my build.

My bits so far:
Frameset: Blue AC1 SL
Wheels: Campagnolo Neutron Ultras
Saddle: Prologo C one 30
Tyres: Vittoria open corsa evo cx

My options:
Centaur carbon/ Athena carbon/ Chorus (at a push, cutting back on other bits)

So my question is where would you put your pennies? If I go centaur my other bits will have a better budget (bars, stem, pedals, shoes and apparel) and if I go Athena or Chorus the budget for the other bits diminishes. I am struggling to decide on the real life benefits of 10 vs 11 speed and power vs ultra torque/shift. Any help with my conundrum would beach appreciated! :D

I would personally buy the best groupset I could afford and upgrade the other components later. Therefore in your case I'd buy Chorus. You've already got some great wheels so having lower spec bars, stem, pedals etc. are not going to make too much difference to the bike's performance.

I have 10spd Centaur and its the Ultra Drive, it's been going for years and in my opinion is bombproof. In the unlikely event that I was to wear a part out then I would just replace with Centaur rather than upgrading. I can't comment on the advantages of 11spd but if I were you I would go Centaur carbon and invest in better bar stem and clothing, but its your money, if I had the money I would go SR but I don't and Centaur works perfectly.

I have Centaur, its great but the latest version has been downgraded quite a bit I think. I f I was buying now I'd probably go 11 speed therefore Athena. Chorus would be nice, but probably more than I need. Shimano 11 speed is coming and apparently the cassettes will have same spacing as Campag so you shoul be able to use a Shimano wheel with a Campag setup without any issue - big plus for me.
  • I think I'm leaning towards Chorus. I think a gradual upgrade of other bits and having the best groupset I can afford makes more sense. Has anyone used ultra shift on the new 11 speeds? Would you say it's as usefull as it initially sounds?

Thanks for the input guys :D

I vote chorus if you can afford it. You are basically getting Super Record with a slight weight penalty. If you are looking to save money the best place to do it would be bars and stem.

Chorus. You may find buying all the components of the Groupset separately from Ribble is cheaper than buying the complete Groupset package. (KMC chain) I assume your wheel is 11speed compatible?

You are on the right track! Go Chorus and cut back elsewhere. I have Chorus on 1 bike, SR on another.

TBH (as neeb said) Chorus is so good its SR with a very small weight penalty.

Well worth pushing the boat out for and at the risk of upsetting others - yes 11 speed is better that 10!
