25 mile TT coming...help

I have my first 25 TT race coming up and ive done pretty much no training for the last month or two, due to work and illness,which im currently still nursing :(

I commute to work though and do it in all weathers so hope that has helped,but ive got about 2 weeks to get back into shape lol.....

I believe in a week of non stop cycling i can get back into a good shape, but worried it might take a week to then recover ie bang on race day ...

How many days can you train in a row before needing a rest day to recover???

Going to train at 15-25 miles tops, @ 20 mph avg pace.

  • 3 days. Use 1 day to recover which also involves eating protein.

    Add sleep, protein, plenty of fluids & possibly some stretching/massage & your recovery should be OK with 24 hours.
    Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

    3 days and you need a days rest? :roll:

    Recovery doesn't mean you need to "rest", active recovery is (IME) just as (if not better) than rest, I have about 2 rest days a month.

    As for the OP, you aren't going to gain a whole lot in 2 weeks, a 25 on just 2 weeks training is going to hurt, alot.

    If you are still ill, then you should really concern yourself getting better first before worrying about training.....
  • You know what I mean. When I say rest, I dont literally mean kip all day. I meant a day where you take it easy, go much slower etc. He can still cycle a bit, just not go mental innit.

    Your recovery will depend on how hard you train. But, you are not going to improve your fitness much in 2 weeks, whatever you do. Bearing this in mind, and the fact you are still sick, I think you need to forget about targeting this race!
  • i know i wont "gain" much in two weeks but i want to "wake up " my cycling muscles.

    Ive done this before with running races where i was off for a while but had a hard couple of weeks training and recovered before doing a race and still raced very well and got good times.

    Im just hoping this will work for cycling...just not sure how many hard training days you can have in a row thats all.

    (running you can get away with 2-3 tops before you start to injure yourself....)

    Recovery wise i wont be sitting on arse, it will definitely be active lol :lol:

    I rarely do more than 2 or 3 hard sessions in a row before an easy(er) session.

    Race coming up or not, you need to ease yourself back in a bit. Hard consecutive days are not the way to go IMO. I would get a couple of hard sessions each week - get a feel for race intensity, and some easier riding but go easy on the volume just in case.

    Active recovery on the bike works for some, but not for others.
