Mrs W is having a weekend away in Germany to celebrate her and some mates 4Oths.

I d got my pay back all arranged . long weekend cycling around the Isle of Man with a mate (P.S thanks Yellow Peril for guidance and kind offers of accom)

Basically was looking to go 0215 ferry out of Heysham to IOM landing 0545 on Saturday 6 th April.

Problem , cant have the Friday off, working until 1900 unless I book the whole week off 1st to 6th and Mrs W has got this week off to cover little girl being off school for easter and wants me to take the next week off to do likewise.

Sorry long story short. Need an England location for Good days cycling on the Saturday followed by good piss up Saturday night , then leisurely role on the Sunday.

Mates from Leeds , Im coming from Newark Notts, so thought the Peak district as thats where we usually meet in the summer for a days riding.

However with him being in Leeds wondered if we could do stage 1 of the 2014 tour and have a night out along the way?

The Yorkshire Dales are great for cycling. I don't think the Tour route is the best, unless you're riding on closed roads.

the North part of day 1 route are fairly quiet roads, bit like the nightlife, best i think you'll manage is a quiet country pub. Masham has the black sheep brewery that do decent food and a couple of 'it shouldn't happen to a vet' type oldy worlde pubs

The tour routes are both good but day two is a one way job whereas day 1 makes a loop so clearly more practical. Depends on how many miles you consider a good ride but as long as you don't mind harsh climbs, it doesn't matter much where you go in the Dales; it's all good stuff.

Cheers guys, Looking at the Tour route, I dont fancy much the first section from Leeds to Skipton using the A61 and A65.

Have had a look at some routes on Bikely between Leeds and Skipton which look a bit quieter.

Probably Kirkstall Road to Guiseley and down to Ilkley (main road but OK and best to just make good time out of Leeds) - on to Ilkley crossing the river on the little bridge before you get into Ilkley proper onto Denton Road. Then along the back roads via Nesfield to A59 - then B6160 to Bolton Abbey taking the first proper left to Halton and Embsay. That's the normal club route and very nice it is too.
