Shimano's new 5-port di2 junction box transmits the battery level and selected gear from the groupset over ant+... does anyone know if Garmin devices can receive this information yet?

  • I can't confirm one way or the other, but I would be very surprised if at least the new 810 Garmin doesn't have this function.

Don't see it as an option on the 510. You can pair it with items if you know their ant+ code, but it works only for cadence / heart rate/ powermeter...
  • There currently isn't a device profile on gear shifting on indication for ANT+. This indicates Shimano may be using a proprietary device profile and potentially a proprietary (private) network key.

I'm only an ANT+ adopter so I can't comment on beta profiles as I don't have access. However, as of right now there is no way to support this therefore no cycle computers exist right now with support for it. It is forseeable that any ANT+ Edge unit (500,510,800,810) could support this (they support up to 3 network keys and 8 channels). The 500 and 800 I suspect won't get this as it's a major update. It will happen if Shimano joins the ANT+ Alliance (Likely already a member) and opens the profile for use on the ANT+ Network.

I am very interested in this too.

Shimano will want to sell you Flight Deck for your Di2 data display but Garmin are surely only a firmware upgrade away from being able to display the same info.

If Shimano are smart, they will encourage Garmin to develop the firmware upgrade... as it will likely sell more Di2 installations.

Gimmick surely, no one would need or want this.

Real time, I can just look down. Analysing my performance after a race I don't have that option... it's not a gimmick, it's hard data that has performance implications.

There is a gimmick element, yes, but there is a gimmick element to a £1200 power meter.

That said I would love to analyse my numbers with gear selection in there, along side cadence, speed and HR. It can only improve my understanding of how I perform best.
