I have a Specialized Rockhopper 2010 model wich is all modified I think the only thing original is the seat post lol . Are the new breed of 29ers that much better as I`m debating to sell the spesh and with the cash buy a carbon lurcher from on one and build it to the spec I like. The thing is I have a reba rlt forks qr15 and mavic wheels which are only a year old and as I wont get back the money I paid for them dont know if I should just make do with what i got and wait a couple of years.

Any thoughts ?

    Of course they are.
    Or maybe not.

Is there anything wrong with your current bike?

    No its perfect
  • I have had two 29ers and wouldn't go back to 26er unless I was doing a lot of short races on tight single track.
So, the answer to your question? No, or yes depending upon where you ride and your riding style.
Why don't you try one out? Surely there must be a shop or a friend who will let you ride one? I wouldn't sell your 'perfect' 26 er for an unknown.

I'm going to try some out at the next demo day... should be interesting. But if they are harder to get round corners than a 26er then I think I'm out as I already have enough trouble keeping out of the trees and bushes. I'm not really that interested in a 'faster' bike at the moment... I can easily go faster if I want, but it will likely end in tears.

I belive you've answered your own question. If your bike works for you then there's no point in changing. :D

29ers are different. Better for some people, worse for others. 650B on the other hand is just completely pointless.

In the same way that downhill bikes are better for some people and perfectly useless for others. full suspension is more useful than a hardtail depending upon your riding. 29ers should be viewed in the same way rather than 26 is dead, everything must now have a 29" wheel.

  • Yes. I must say I am impressed by the 29:ers I have tried. Not that I own one or even plan to own one. When it´s time for an new all mountain / trailbike I am al for the 29:er box.
