Boardman Range Update? (or recommend a bike)

Hi all,
It's time for a new bike. 1.1k budget. I've kind of set my sights on a Boardman FS but I'm hesitant as they might be replacing the range this spring. So does anyone have any heads-up on if this is so/when?
The other option is to listen to people here and get a non Boardman bike.
My details:
6"
90kgs (aim to reduced this one day!)
Weekend biker
Trails ridden - QE Country Park and beyond. Aim to go further afield)
Can carry out own maintenance etc.
Cheers,
M

I think the Boardmans are staying the same this year. And even if they were replacing the range, I would say all the more reason to get one quick - all the other manufacturers have lowered the spec and increased the price of their bikes for all recent model refreshes.0

Thanks for the reply. I guess it makes sense... as I understand it, I can get 10% off by joining a cycle club anyway, so make's it even cheaper...
Another thought is the - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-92 ... 08373.html
Any thought's on that one. It seems to have lockout on the handle bar etc...0 -
Hi M4rcus
I should be picking my FS up tomorrow can wait as this will be my first Full Suspension bike price was £1049 but found a 10% off voucher code on line which made it only £944 which made it even more of a bargain as they get some good reviews on bike sites and forums
also i was thinking that any new version that comes out would properly be a lower spec as is the custom0 -
Try and find an FS Pro, i got one last august and its a great bike for £1200, the guy said the pro was being discontinued but there may be the odd one in a halfords somewhere. They willorder a bike in from another branch if they dont have one.0

I've just been to the local Halfords and the don't seem to have a lot left of the 12/13... no FS Pro's anywhere
They have no 29ers either which is still making me think that they are updating the range soon.
The best deal I could get is by joining the cycle club for £28, which saves £76.9 (£105 - £28) and they would then throw in £30 worth of kit for free...
Is this a good deal or am I about to buy last years bike right before a nice discount?!
Cheers,

This seems to be a regular issue with Halfords - they get a batch of stock in, then sell very quickly and they are scarce for a while until the next batch. Its been like this for years... And very often it prompts someone to think it means they are discontinued and new models coming but that isnt the case. I think Boardman stated that they dont refresh the models every year and they arent due yet.
They have introduced some new models, filling some gaps in the range, and I suspect they will add a 29er at some point this year.
I would definately expect any change to result in either higher price, lower spec or both though.
If there were any chance of a new model, I would buy the existing one quickly before that happens.
If joining British cycling - you can get it for £21 using the code TFORL13 (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/common/vouche ... ishcycling)0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I think I will go ahead at the end of the month and get the Team FS.
A note about revised range... I contacted Halfords and they replied and said they expect to replace the range at the end of June! This is far to far away for me.
Cheers,
M0 -
The word behind the scenes for the Boardman range is that they are changing their higher spec bikes from sram/rockshox to shimano/fox, heard this a few times at work now but again it may well be bikehut managers speculating as nothing concrete has been found - last time I looked on the system there were only 22 team fs' left at head office, that was in a large size mind you so there may be a few more dotted about the country in shops.0

they can't be bad bikes because YETI did steal the rear suspension design afterall.ribble sportive for the black stuff
Canyon Strive AL 8.0 for the brown and green stuff.0 -

It's imminent, but even the shops don't know yet. They have price codes on their computer system for new bikes, but absolutely no info on what they are. I just got what appeared to be the last brand new boxed 2013 Team FS on Tuesday, from Harrogate branch, for £849.99.0 -
is it worth holding out until the new range is out? i can get a bike on the cycle scheme but only after 2nd september 2013. will the new range be out by then?0

There's very little left of the 2013 range, so if you can't get the bike you want then that makes the decision for you. I would imagine the 2014s will be out before September, the shops say they're expecting them soon, but haven't been given any details on dates or specs. I think I got a good deal on mine - it receives good reviews at £1050, so has to be a bargain at £850. What size are you looking for? I think there's a handful of bikes left out there, but they might be display models (mine was box fresh). Next nearest branch to me showing a medium in stock now is York.0 -
The trend with new models these days is for lower spec and/or higher price. I would buy now if possible.0

Yup, seems every year the spec goes down for the same price, or price increases for same spec. I'm happy with £850 for the spec of my Team FS.0 -
I can't guarantee the info cos it came from someone in bike hut but apparently the new range FS bike is a corker. The frame apparently costs almost as much as the bike meaning they're pretty much at cost price.
The guy has seen it at head office and is rather excited.0 -
The spec may apparently go down but this doesn’t mean it’s not as good. A 2012 bike with a 9 speed XT may have a 10 speed SLX in 2013. This may be a spec downgrade, but I’d rather have the 10 speed than 9 speed. It may well be the same for SRAM.Planet X Kaffenback 2
