I'm the opposite! Feeling over prepared for the 30 so switching on the day to the 62 and bagging a shot at Mow Cop too... :D

  • I'm torn between the 30 mile which I've registered for, and the 62 mile. I've just completed the Jodrell Bank Classic at 50 miles which included a nasty climb up to Pott Shrigley... whether it compares to the Mow Cop climb, I'm not so sure!
Still trying to convince the missus of the n+1 rule...!

Yes, feeling very under prepared. This long wet winter really has hampered the training rides, but still going to give the 100 a go.
    SOLITUDE. It's not for everyone.

  • Yep, me too, and my bike is in the LBS with a destroyed rear mech and waiting for parts before it gets fixed.

Down for the 62mile route and hoping its not so cold by the end of March.

Still, early days yet and the weather means just about everyone bar Majorca training week people will be groaning up Mow Cop!

Feeling prepared but hoping the weather improves doing the 100 and the Mow cop is not easy and can get over crowded. Good luck.

Definitely a little under-prepared on where I'd hoped to be, just hoping for dry roads on the day.
  • this is going to be my first sportive. i'm feeling pretty confident about it as i've been doing a lot of training over the last few months, which hasn't been fun in the cold but should pay off i hope. looking forward to mow cop, i've heard a lot of horror stories about this one haha

Done it the last two years so giving it a miss this year - good luck to those that are partaking, last year was great and well organised a massive improvement on 2011.

    A tip for Mow Cop:

It is called the killer mile, the climb starts just after the railway line - if you are worried by it then my advice is drop to a low gear and spin up the first 1km - let people pass you they will suffer later. The gradient will get steeper but just keep it easy - when you see Mow Cop (or tarmac wall) find a line (people will be wobbling and falling over so finding your route up is actually the toughest part) and then essentially gun it up the 200m 25% - If you have saved your legs (and done some training) you should be able to do it. Good Luck.

Good advice about Mow Cop there from mr_poll.

The major problem on the climb is people who climb off and then, selfishly, decide to walk up the middle of the road. :x
The road is quite narrow, and combined with parked cars, photographers, spectators and 2000+ riders, makes picking a line a major problem.

Just as a piece of friendly advice, if you need to climb off, please walk up the side of the road or on the pavement if it`s on the steep bit near the pub.

While I`m on the soapbox (sorry, but this really p****s me off! ) it`s easy to fold empty gel wrappers and stash them in a jersey/jacket pocket `til you get to a feed station with a bin.
Throwing them all over the road shows a complete lack of respect for our countryside and puts sportives and cyclists in a bad light.
This could lead to the authorities withdrawing permission for these events!

    Rant over!
  • Having prepared very well by averaging 150 miles per week, every week since Christmas, I was really looking forward to the Cat 100 route, but my back has decided to play up and it would be foolish of me to go ahead with it.

This means I've got a spare ticket up for grabs!
    PM me if you're interested.

I'm registered on the 100 mile route - is dropping down to the 60 a case of just following the 60 mile signs or do I need to notify the organisers?

juts follow the signs - there isnt really anyone you could notify anyway - you'll mostly see helpers in hi-viz jackets - have fun

it does say somewhere in the manual about informing them if u decide to downgrade your route(also no refund) if upgrading(extra cost)may make your times look good for the 100 if you only do the 60and dont tell them!!!!

Well, ignoring the fact that it had been cancelled, i was quite looking forwards to the ride! My last weeks ride was as below and i was feeling alright! Defo OK for a flat 100mi (just like the cheshire cat!)
