Possibly not many Edge 800s left?

I took the plunge today, and with some money left over from birthday and Christmas, ordered an Edge 800 (performance bundle - with HRM and Cadence) from Amazon.
I'd been watching their stock levels for some weeks, and they were at 30+ for some time, but now only 5 left - so rather than take the risk that only the 810 at over £400 will be available, I thought I'd be marginally less indecisive than usual and get one.
It may just be that they're going to get more stock, but I wondered if possibly now that the 810 is out, there aren't many 800s left to grab.
Just a heads up in case anyone's similarly dithering...

Have they stated that they will no longer produce them? If so - is it the same with the 500? I ask because the 200 is still around, presumably they still produce them - although it could be old stock taking a while to shift.
In my book the 500 does everything I need - no need to upgrade to the 510. I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the 800. Have you used a Garmin before?0 -
No plans to discontinue the 800 or 500 yet and both still available on Garmin's website.Boardman Elite SLR 9.2S

A number of companies seem to be clearing their 500/800 stock with sales. Still plenty of 705s around, so I'd be surprised if they become hard to get hold of any time soon.0

Fair enough, at least it made me make up my mind.
Changing the subject a little, is it worth getting one of these silicone covers for the thing? Is the gorilla tired yet?0 -
There are loads of 800's around, bike-discount.de keep having them in their daily offers suggesting a lot of stock, handtec (almost always the cheapest other than when others have discount) have them in stock which is unusual, because they are the cheapest etc...Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0

I got mine from Halfords in a special offer they had this time last year. It was under £300 for the version with full Euope maps, cadence and HRM. There have been offers on them almost since they came out and there will be offers on the 810 soon. That's how competition works.
The silicon cover may offer some protection if you think you will be dropping it on a frequent basis. Me and the missus haven't needed them.Boardman Elite SLR 9.2S
