Need a new chainring as mines is bent to hell,
Don't know whether I should go for a 2x9 set up or a 1x10.
It's for cross country.
Any advice?

Mountain biking is the bicycle version or rallying, except you don't need a Co-Driver!

3x whatever you've got atm0

At the moment it's 3x8, but I never use the smallest ring and very rarely use the biggest so the idea of a 1x10 sounded quite good, also the fact that its less gears to adjust makes it desirable because that's one skill I can't seem to get to grips with hahaMountain biking is the bicycle version or rallying, except you don't need a Co-Driver!0

If you want to change from anything 8 you will need new shifter, cassette and chain, and a new mech if you want to go anything 10. Or you can just buy a new chainring.I don't do smileys.

ps out on interest how do you trash a middle ring (assuming that's what it is) without damaging the big ring?I don't do smileys.

1x10 FTW0

I've not hit anything with the middle but the teeth are bent :-( ... Can only assume it wasn't very good quality as it came with the bike. I notice almost all of the single speed front chain sets are for DH bikes, does this make a difference?Mountain biking is the bicycle version or rallying, except you don't need a Co-Driver!0

Depemds whether they, or the BB will work with your bike.
Or just run a single ring with any chainset.I don't do smileys.

How would I know if they worked with my bike?Mountain biking is the bicycle version or rallying, except you don't need a Co-Driver!0

What is your chainset? And which chainring did you bend?0

It's the standard chainring on a talon 3Mountain biking is the bicycle version or rallying, except you don't need a Co-Driver!0

We need to know the make and model of chainset. They vary on production bikes - and there has been three Talon 3s - it needs to be exact. It should state it on the chainset.0
