I did this sportive this morning which was organised by UK cycling events for Cycling Weekly. A superbly organised event and really enjoyed it.

Yes it was cold, no doubt, especially with the wind although not too bad when cycling. I did experience something that I hoped never would happen to me - speed wobble, not once, not twice but three times! It bloody scared the life out of me. I had read about it before and remembered to put my knees on the bar to dampen it down which it did. I think the cause was the wind as there were bad crosswinds throughout the ride but it has sure given me the creeps when descending.

Apart from that a great ride with some hard climbs (14%) in places which burnt the lungs and killed the legs.

Cross winds are a killer. Had them myself recently on a fast descent - scared the life out of me!

While the wind may have started the wobble, it's the bike that needs checking.

For me it wasn't so much of a wobble - more just gusts kept hitting me side on.

Just try it with 50mm wheels. Improves your bike handling skills no end.

Some testing climbs in our part of north Dorset! Looked like some decent routes.

Were you wobbling down Fontmell hill?

Didn't ride it as have other commitments on a Sunday at present, but when out on Saturday and doing parts of the route it looked very well signed, far more so than the wiggle events that head out this way.

Was very well signed and the best I had done (although not done too many). Will have a look at the bike to check it but pretty sure it was the wind that caused the wobbles.
