My seat post is well and truly stuck. It's a alloy specialised post in a carbon specialized frame. It's not been moved for around 8months and when I tried to move it the other day it was well and truly in there. I've tried spraying tf2 into it buy that had no effect, I've heated the post with a hair dryer but no use. I've even tried soaking it with coke... I've been told plusgas ( a releasing agent) works well but wasn't sure. Any help or advice would be great :)
Cheers

Hi. I had the same specialized carbon frame/ally seat post, sprayed loads of wd40 and silicone spray at it,did this for about 2 days, think it released a bit but in the end I got a block of wood, big hammer, took the seat off, put the wood on top of seat post and hit with hammer, shocked it free and pushed the post down a bit(about 10mm) then stuck the post in a vice(bike upside down), and twisted the fame of the post. Worked for me, not saying it would for you. Good luck with what ever you try. Don't think many shops will entertain it as there is the chance of cracking the frame.

Ammonia......most likley the ally post has oxidised and ammonia* will disolve that oxide.

We spent two days trying to get the post out of the lads carbon scott, 24hours soak with ammonia and I just pulled it out.

We wrapped kitchen roll round the joint then used gaffed tape to create a well and then poured the ammonia in on top.

Plus gas works with rust (steel parts) not ally......

check out you tube and retrobike for the removal of seat posts with ammonia - a lot of heat is generated which may not be clever with a carbon fibre frame - most stuck posts are alloy in a steel frame.

I would try plusgas - run a scriber between the seat tube and post to shift any crud and to break any seal so that the fluid can penetrate.

depending on how much you value the frame, the safest option maybe to have bike shop ream the post out.

to remove, hold the frame and twist the post (or clamp post and twist the frame). once it moves, you are one huge step to getting it out.

you could ty warming up the seat tube with hair dryer and spray lots of freezer spray into the post so make the post shrink within the seat tube.
  • In the end sprayed a load of gt85 all over it a few times and managed to budge it :) good old gt85
