been chatting to a mate who suggested that i should enter a few TT's with the local club(dont know why as i'm not that quick)but none the less i have been thinking about it and would kinda like to have a go even if i am as slow as a wet week and finish last and embarrass myself into the bargain, think it would be a good test and a guage of my fitness.

been looking into getting the license from BC and see i can get a membership/provisional bronze license for £15.i dont really want to pay a lot of money for membership etc for maybe one or two TT's but £15 is not to bad for somebody who just wants to test themselves out.

will this be enough to allow me to take part in the TT's or do i need something else as well?

any info much appreciated.

Depends on how much the club membership is, or are you already a member? If so you should be covered by them during TT's.

    See - http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/Beg ... fault.aspx
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

You don't need a BC licence to ride TTs. BC runs very few TTs, most are run by CTT. You club just needs to be affiliated to CTT, that's all.

Edit - just noticed you are in NI, so none of the above may or may not apply.

DOH me too, ignore the CTT advice they are for England and Wales only and do not cover NI that I can see

Hi Gubber, cant help you with license advise but may be able to help with some encouragement. I started cycling bout 20 years ago after one too many injuries playing rugby. After a couple of club time trials (thinking I was really fit, and realizing these cycling guys were way beyond us "amateur" sportsmen), I also thought I was "slow as a wet weekend". Encouraging friends and a couple of seasons later I was putting out some really decent times and really enjoying the new sport. Give it a go, you may surprise yourself.

As others have mentioned, to ride time trials you just need to be a member of a cycling club affiliated to Cycling Time Trials (the main body that overseas time trialling in the UK). Most clubs are affiliated, if you drop your local club an email I'm sure they'll help you out. Good luck, it gets addictive!

cheers TTer,i just assumed that as NI is part of the UK it never really struck me about an independent body over here and never looked it up.i'l have a check and go from there.
