Am looking at getting a 2012 rocky mountain element 70 RSL but the sizing has me a bit lost.

As far as I can make out the 19" is their large and the 20.5 X large. I'm 6 foot exactly and currently ride a 20.5 yeti 575 which fits me perfectly with an 80mm stem. I would have thought the 20.5" rocky would have been the size to go for but have read a few comments online suggesting they come up big. The fact that they make 5 different sizes and the 20.5 is as large as they get makes me think there might be something to this. Unfortunately the geometry is completely different to the yeti so its a bit difficult to compare them on paper. There's no opportunity for me to test ride the rocky.

If anyone can let me know how they found the sizing on them in practice I'd much appreciate it.

Cheers
Lloyd

FWIW I wouldn't spend that much on a bike without riding one, much less sitting on one.

even more confusing on the yeti website, the L and XL both appear to be 20.5 ?, though the toptube measurement on the L 575 seems to be the same as the 20.5 element, 24.8''/630mm

  • Yep, they both appear to have the same top tube length but the seat tube on the rocky is 2 degrees steeper so you need to push your saddle back further to get the same position relative to the pedals so you need to add an inch or so to that number....

Have you tried riding a steeper seat angle before?
  • Yep - the yeti was my first full suspension bike, before that I rode steep angled hard tails.
