I thought a bit odd... to get charged VAT for a product like a download from overseas.
Any VATMEN here to cast light?

I shall endure Blender later on.

Simple but boring the seller is offering you a service by allowing you to download the film, or if not purchased download as a rental scheme.

vat is payable on downloads, whether content or software

it used to be widely ignored by companies outside the eu, but companies that didn't charge it were warned and now most do (payment processors handle it i think)

some sites allow a vat number to be entered, and a subset of those then remove the vat from the charge...

Have they already added their own tax? (assuming it's from the states)

I think the Sufferfest dudes are based in Singapore.
Paying thru Paypal, the invoice adds in the tax element.
Do Paypal send this to HMRC?
    Just curious thats all

Note sure but HMRC website refers to sellers so assume Paypal just work out that its coming from abroad as an import and sort out the VAT element for you? http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPort ... e=document
