After months of hanging off due to a house purchase I finally have the spare cash to get me a road bike..

After much deliberation and touring round many shops I have narrowed it down to these 2:

I think I prefer the Merlin, not had a chance to sit on one yet as I live in Dundee but the geometry looks good for me.

So which would you choose and why? I have looked at all the usual suspects but there offer cracking value for money IMHO of course. I will be using it for fitness rides on a mix of hilly and country roads, looking to do anything from 30 - 100 miles eventually and possibly a triathlon if the shoulder behaves!!

Budget is strictly £700, I'd love the Planet X pro carbon but really can't justify that kind of money just now and I'm Bikeless at the minute. Hoping to order tomorrow for a weekend delivery.

Same frame material, both have carbon forks, both Tiagra, both compact chainsets. So essentially the same.

Go with the one you like the look of most (as long as it fits).
    Yellow is the new Black.

Thanks Smidsy, finishing kit is the only difference really, the Merlin comes with Deda stuff and the Mekk is own branded.

I'll have to buy the Merlin blind unfortunately but I have checked the geometry against my last road bike and it is near identical.

£700 you can pick up some last year stock top of range alu i am sure of it

try some independent bike shops - go to cyclescheme there is a massive list of them...and also use yell or google. ring them up and see if they can sort you something out.
