Could this be the culprit of my lower back pain ?

Id posted recently about lower back pain id been getting despite never having it before during years of cycling. A couple of weeks ago I had removed my seatpost to clean it and swap saddles. My seatpost is exactly the same as the one in the pic, its a controltech team issue 1a which has 10mm of setback. When I was putting everything together again I was talking to one of my kids and not paying a lot of attention to what I was doing

I was cleaning my bike this evening and something didnt look quite right.....AND THEN IT DAWNED ON ME  , Id installed my seat on the seatpost back to front with the setback section being to the front instead of to the rear    I reinstalled the seat the right way round and after setting the seat height, it resulted in 25mm more post showing than when I had it back to front.

I called myself all the stupid effers I could think of and if I could have given myself a boot in the ar$e .....I would have done so. It was so strange having the lower back ache when it never existed before and it only showed itself a couple of weeks ago. Is it viable to think a setback seatpost with the saddle installed the wrong way round could have been a contributing factor to the pain I was getting ?

    it is possible.

For a good many years I had to get my position spot on - or else I got terrible back ache. Unfortuntaley back ache got me in the end no matter what I did - its been gettin on for 2 years since Ive done a serious bike ride.

If I were you I would at the very least get a routine of flexibility excercises going - and enrollment at a pilates class may be a smart move

Have you gone back to your Retul fitter with your problems yet?

not just yet des but its on my to do list.

im intrigued by the seatpost fitted the wrong way round though too, the back ache started after i installed the seat incorrectly , i would guess there is a correlation to some degree.

Done the same thing myself before. Derped about with my clamp not understanding why I couldn't get it level - D'oh!

Didn't experience any pain, 1 ride probably isn't enough though.

If the position of the saddle is the same irrespective of the orientation of the seatpost then the post is not the cause of your problems.
