Recommend a good bike fit?

Does anybody have experience of a good bike fitting service?
I'm planning to move from a fairly basic alu bike (Specialised Allez) up to a grand and a half or so of carbon fibre. Partly I'm looking for something with overall better quality components but I'm also after a ride that is a little softer and more forgiving.
With this sort of an investment in mind I want to get a really good fit for the new bike, the shop that the Allez came from followed the approach of "how does that feel, try this stem, put your saddle down, that looks about right". Ironically they are a specialist road bike shop and do offer a fitting service but every time I enquired about booking a fit they muttered about it all being very expensive, that it would take a lot of time and then sugested I try another new stem. They rather failed to grasp that I wanted it it take lots of time and was happy to spend some money, I rather suspect that the guys in the shop have been trained in a firing system, havn't actually done many fits and don't really want to get involved.
So I'm after recommendations from anybody who has had a proper bike fit that was worthwhile. I'm based near Oxford but don't mind traveling 50mi or so to get a really professional service, I'd be interested to hear how much people have spent on fitting also.
Many Thanks.

As others have said, AT at CS is your man. If you need one sooner than he can provide it then Andy at Bike Science is very good.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0

+1 for Adrian!
I took a day off work and drove miles to get a fit with Adrian. Turned out to be worth every penny!
My shoes now fit so much better thanks to the beds, and I have shims on my cleats which have sorted my leg angle (knees used to be so close to the crossbar). My position used to feel stretched, and bizarrely on video looked very upright. Now I feel more upright and comfortable, but on video I look more stretched and more natural, with my core weight being supported on the saddle rather than trying to 'prop' myself up with my arms. Major adjustments made at the start of the session, down to mm's at the end.
Sadly I think his prices have now gone up and he's booking months in advance ....0 -
Richard at Pedal Precision at the velodrome in Manchester did a great job on me and others I, ve talked to. Also gave some useful exercises to help with back problems on the bike. Very knowledgable and nice bloke as well.0

Had 2 slipped discs and a snapped achilles tendon, had bike fit with Adrian Timmis, mainly since i am from Burton on Trent. Excellent guy, there is a large thread about him, get no pain and have never felt better on a bike.0

Jon Dennis has moved from Milton Keynes to North East. He is the Retul university coach and works for Retul directly teaching fitters so he knows what he is talking about.
This is his new setup

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Scherrit Knoeson at The Bike Whisperer, Ealing.
He's brilliant.0 -
Might be a bit far off for you, but Epic Cycles in Ludlow are excellent. I had a bike fit there at a cost of £75 (two years ago), although it is free if you buy the bike from them (which I did).0

Thanks for all the posts guys, great to have so many personal recommendations.0

I've had a fit at Epic. Not as complete as BS (retul) or Cadence but still very good.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0
