Hi, im looking to buy a new fork and the specs say this:
Entry level forks from Suntour offering amazing quality and performance at an amazing price.
•Travel: 80mm.
•System: Coil spring (both sides) with pre-load adjust.
•Brake: Disc brake IS mount & V-type
•Maximum disc rotor diameter: 185mm.
•Drop-out: 9mm.
•Lower: Monocoque magnesium.
•Crown: Alloy.
•Steerer: 1.1/8" x 255mm ahead
RRP £65
And heres the page: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suntour-XCT-V ... 5d39fd3e68
I currently run a 1 1/8 inch threaded headset with standard rigid forks.
I have no clue what "255 ahead" means. Also, does anyone know of another fork that would cost £40 max that is better than this?

For that money new you won't get a suspension fork that is better than a rigid. As a mimimum you want a Suntour XC with hydraulic damper.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Thanks guys I just typed suntour XC into ebay and saw this. would this be a better bet? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SR-SUNTOUR-XC ... 460630c4d90

Has to be an XCM or XCR with hydraulic damping. Unfortunately that one is pants too lol.
You won't get better than this:

Mmmmm. Your sig says you have ten bikes.... Sell some of them and use the money to buy better components for one or two of them.
Oh! And make sure the frame your putting the forks on can take a suspension fork. If it came with rigids it'll probably expect a short axle to crown height and may not take a suspension fork without lifting the headset up and making the whole thing look and handle like a chopper (as in Harley Davidson.... Not Raleigh).0 -

Yeah im in the process of getting rid of some of them, one is gonna be sold today hopefully. i wanted a fork for a 50km charity ride i am going to enter, but today i have been informed that it is mostly on roads...so i think im going to scrap the fork upgrade for now anyhow... Ill stay with new Schwalbe Kojak tyres, and rather than having a fork ill look at possible a new drive train and/or a new stem.
My bike came with rigids but im sure it is capable of handling suspension forks as ive seen the same bike before with suspensions as standard. If anything id say suspension forks are more common on them.
LOL at the chopper part0
