White's Level Climb - what the .....?!!

Hi everyone,
I went and rode W2 from Afan last weekend and was somewhat surprised by the trail diversion currently in place on the White's level climb. I'm not sure how long the diversion is going to remain in place but it is seriously challenging! I would estimate that the new diversion section is probably 200-300 metres long, all of it steep and with fairly long sections that must be well over 30%. At the moment I would say it's just about rideable but as the surface is just mud, if there is any rain it's going to quickly become a nightmare....
I always thought the White's climb was one of the best in the country, and it was possible to get up it at a good pace as none of the gradients were too steep or sustained, however that is no longer the case.
I've had a look on the Afan website and there's nothing on there I could see that might give any hint as to how long the diversion is likely to stay in place.
So...if you like brutal climbs, then get over there!

Just found This on the webby. Looks like more tree work. The only two times I went last summer, the whole of the last two sections were closed and the diversion sent you up some 2-3mile fireroad climb instead of hitting the Darkside descent, which I've heard so much about but am yet to ride! They seem to be pretty found of these 'diversions'.0

for up to date info you're probably better off looking at cognations site or facebook page

Follow Afan Valley Bike Shed and Cognation on Facebook for up-to-date info, but that diversion is fucking stupid! It'll be there for a while I reckon like all the diversions over there are. I couldn't ride up it last Thursday night, I'm not the fittest but I never usually have to push, especially not at a trail centre!
Lots of rain due over the next week and that section is going to be completely un-rideable! Disgrace!0
