Breaking my banshee and want to keep the mavic xm317's for running downhill tyres, is it worth swapping the 20mm hub for a 15mm hub that's the same spec as the one on my giant trance or just buy a new wheel?

Reason I'm thinking of this is that I know of two instances where the giant rims have buckled badly on similar bikes, whereas my mavics have put up with tons of abuse and never needed truing. So I could go tubeless with light, less grippy tyres on the giant rims for summer, trail centres etc.

Thoughts, dumb idea all round?

unbilding and rebuilding on a new hub will cost the same as a new wheel.
