PRO Chain Tension Device (for travelling without rear wheel)
Morning all,
I recently purchased this little doodad to use instead of my trusty off-cut of MDF when travelling with my bike in a bike bag.
I figured it would be nice to take care of the chain as well as being far less likely to scratch things; not having to wrap the rear end in tonnes of electrical tape is handy too.
An added bonus was that it comes with a little adapter to fit 135mm MTB dropouts as well. Only, I can't for the life of me figure out how you're supposed to add that. If you take off either the lever end or the opposite end, you can't fit the adapter over the main shaft. I expected it would slide up to the 130mm spacer already fitted, or you'd remove the 130 and fit the 135 in its place - but I can't do either of those.
I've emailed PRO/Shimano but no response - has anyone got one of these, or would care to hazard a guess at some other alternative configurations?
The best I can do at the moment is slide it on between the spring and the end cap, but that doesn't really work too well...
Sorry for the rambling...

My guess would be that it replaces the thinner spacer. Does the spacer unscrew once the QR skewer is removed?0

Tried again last night - nothing but the quick release unscrews - but I did notice that the "hub" ends, once the QR spindle is removed, takes an allen key at both ends.
Sadly, since I'm travelling with only my multitool, I can't hold one end steady to unscrew the other, but I'll try this when I get back to Blighty!Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0 -
If you're in a hotel room and hence not too concerned about possible damage to the fittings, you can get quite a firm grip on something by sticking it in the gap at the hinge side of a door and gently closing it on the item. Careful, you have a lot of leverage going on. This might hold one end still enough to use the multitool allen key on the other end?0
