Been looking on ebay for a set of shifters and there is loads of single right side for sale, does that mean that the left ones break more?

Shimano had a bunch of LH shifter failures a few years ago. Was at the time when the LH shifter could be used for double or triple, and the failures seemed to be when used for a double. (My triple from that era is still fine)0

my triple failed round a 60 mile sportive..... it was a tough 25 miles back stuck in the top ring!!!!!0

My 105 5700 L triple shifter broke in normal use as a triple. This is more recent than the batch mentioned above. It seems that they are all suspect.0

Broke my 5600 left shifter on Sunday....going to try the 5601 double specific one.0

Not so much break as wear out. I am on my 4th ultgra STI in 2 years.0

5600 was a problem batch partly because it was designed as both double and triple (Ultegra came in two versions, 105 had one, presumably to cut machining costs a little). I imagine 5601 (double only) came out 1-2 years after the original version to fix the problem.
That said, every manufacturer I've heard of has been very good indeed at providing quick replacements for free if a problem batch/design is identified.0 -
Six years on my triple and three years? on a double, so perhaps the oldies are the best.0

I have a brand new Ultegra 6700 left double shifter for sale if anyone is interested.
Bought because I didn't think Shimano was going to replace my broken one under warranty but they did. Sadly not before I panic bought one because I've an event I don't want to miss.
