Trek 7.3fx - Bar Ends problem

Hi Guys,
This is my first posting, i have recently purchased an very well looked after Trek 7.3FX. I have decided to add bar ends to the Bontrager Satellite Plus IsoZone handle bars. I have purchase the adapter kit and some normal 'stubby' end bars, however i'm having problems fixing the end bars to the handle bars. The end bars have circular holes whilst the adapter has elipicular/semi circulare fixings!!!
Any help please!!
