I have a set of 2006 F100 RLC forks. I noticed that about 2 inches of the anodised surface has worn off on the left stanchion, 75% of which is hidden by the lowers. It dosen't appear to have any effect on performance but I was thinking of changing the uppers if possible. Also the steerer is too short for the HT i am building up so it would benefit me in two ways.

I literally just finished servicing them and the internals are immaculate so I was thinking of just taking them out and putting them in some newer uppers, then put the assembly into the existing lowers. Im thinking any 100m/32mm 2008 onwards for the uppers going into the 2006 lowers. Anyone know if this would work/be possible?

Heres a pic of the forks in question:
