Long reach caliper brake or mini V?

I can't decide between a set of these http://www.probikekit.com/uk/components/brakes-and-pads/brake-calipers/tektro-r559-extra-long-drop-caliper-brake-set.html or a pair of these http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/22996/Tektro_926AL_Mini_Vee_Brake for the road bike I'm currently converting from a flat bar to drops.
I have quite a bit of mudguard clearance to negotiate (no mudguards fitted) and the Tektro calipers are the only ones I can find with enough reach and they are the more expensive option rather then the mini Vs. I'm happy to pay either for the best performance though so does anyone have any experience of either of these or any opinions as to which is likely to give me better braking?
I will be using SRAM Rival sti shifters by the way if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance

Depends which mounting points your forks have really. Most road bikes will only have the centre hole, so you'll be steered down the path of the long-drop calipers.Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0

Miche do some decent long drop callipers called "Performance":

I've got some that came on a frame and fork bundle I'd bought for a winter bike build, and was going to upgrade the brakes but never got round to it as they're absolutely fine - I did change the pads for some Swissstop Greens though. I'd buy them again if I needed long drops...Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -

I have the cantre hole and also mounting bolts on the forks for Vs because the bike came with Avid Single Digit 7s which work really well but won't with the sti shifters due to the required cable pull. For me it's really a question of performance really, I do like to be able to stop sharply!!Luv2ride wrote:Miche do some decent long drop callipers called "Performance":

Thanks for the suggestion luv2ride but not enough reach on those, I need around 70mm I reckon.
Any more advice appreciated. CheersVaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap

Your forks were designed for a post-mounted brake. So, just to be clear, you are prepared to compromise on safety by fitting a flexier, heavier and less-powerful brake because you think it looks better? Furthermore, you can't be certain the caliper brake fits and you'd still need to take a drill to them to accommodate the retainer nut.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Hi Monty Dog
I'm not sure I understand where you get the idea I'm trying to compromise safety with looks :?
I stated quite clearly in both of my posts in this thread that I'm asking for advice on performance from both options because I want the best regardless of cost and I never mentioned looks at all!
I take it that mini v is the way to go though in your view?If you are right about having to drill etc than I have to agree with you so mini v it is.
