I'm out of the country at present, i've been living abroad for a while. I had no idea things were so bad. When I get back, I might just ride everywhere with a GoPro on the bike. Do you think a camera would alter people's reactions?

Stopped for a boy racer to pass in a passing place on a narrow country lane yesterday... Boy racer screams to a halt and reverses back towards me. Another heart stopping moment. I look back in the direction he is heading and to my huge relief he has stopped for a farm tractor coming up behind... I think I'm becoming paranoid!

After posting last week that I had very few incidents on the road bike, I had my closest ever "moment" this week :(

100 yards from home again, 9pm, vitually no cars on the road, 2 rear lights and the high vis jacket on.
I entered an empty roundabout with the intention of travelling straight on, passing the first (2 lane wide) exit.
When I was 3/4 across said exit, I heard a crunching noise and looked down and to my right, to see the nearside front light of a car about to hit me  Luckily this was a near as it got, but it must have stopped pretty sharpish, as the young woman driving it had actually stalled it! (At a quick guess, I'd say she stopped about 6" short  )
No abuse was hurled in either direction in this case, as I think we were both too surprised to react :? I gave her the acknowledged two arms raised "what was that about" gesture, to which she replied with the one hand "sorry"
She actually looked a bit traumatised, so perhaps it was a good thing in the long run?

Being slightly serious though, she had about a lane and a half to pass behind me, and if she had gone on in the dirrection she was travelling in without hitting me, she would have gone into the central reservation any way! I can only assume she was on the phone, or worse texting  This is a bit more dangerous than shouting abuse at folks.

I think i had a similar experience to what you described when i first started cycling, a car screeched to a halt beside me but too late to prevent mounting the pedestrian island in the middle of the road. She was a bit shocked and said she'd been concentrating on me and didnt see the island. I thought afterwards i should have asked knowingly "was it my awesome legs?" Course it was 8)
