I know of a 1998 Santa Cruz Heckler for sale, old bike, seems in overall good condition, has decent enough parts & is missing only a seat, bar, stem & cabling.
It's going for £200, worth buying or should I stick with my Carrera for now & save a bit longer & get a modern frame?

I ride a 2001 Heckler and it is a decent enough xc bike if a little heavy versus its modern counterparts. Its angles are a little steep and standover isn't too good due to the frame design. Suspension is simple and with the old coil shock a little too bouncy for good xc riding but I swapped out the coil for an air shock and it made the bike every bit as good as a modern bike aside from the angles which are still steep.

It rides well, is a little flexy through the pivots, a little heavy but for £200 would not be a bad ride.

Being a sado I tried one of these when the first came out and was very impressed. Even borrowed one for racing on & it was a fast bike.

Compared to a modern bike they are a bit heavy however is still a capable bike & pretty well put together. Might be worth the money though guess it depends what kit it comes with & how well its been looked after. At that age would only really be concerned with the pivot point & possibly the front forks, but work having a look at at least.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

their rock solid although as above a little bouncy !
Check the shock tho as if it knackered a descent one wont be cheap....however sticking a Fox pro-pedal will make a load of difference to its pedalling efficentcy
