Most successful bike for 2 grand?

Has there ever been a bicycle thats won an olympic medal, podium in a major cycle race etc that totaled no more than £2000 (or equivelant of that in todays value). Im talking about road bikes or time trial bikes.
They say its the engine that matters so this isnt exactly like asking if a standard mondeo has ever won NASCAR, would be interesting to hear about someone achieving something big on a budget in a sport regarded as being very expensive.

    Cnayon Ultimate AL has a few top 10's in Paris Roubaix. It really isn't anything to do with the bike though.

    Nicole Cooke won Olympic gold in 2008 on a boardman that sold for about £1400 all in. She may have swapped the wheels out for Zipps, though, IIRC.

    Zipp wheels and SRAM Red, so it cost a wee bit more than 2k ;-)
