short cage road mech for 2x9 setup?

Apologies if this has been asked before but I was wondering if anyone has used this setup before?
I think I already know the answer but since going 2x9 I have pretty much decided I don't need the 44t ring anymore and i'm wanting to use a short/medium rear mech on my new build. New ratios will be 22/32 front and 11-34 rear so can't see any problem there.
Rather than buy a new mech I already have an unused 2012 med cage sora mech that I bought last year. Are there any disadvantages to using a sora mech compared with the xt long cage i'm using now?
