Did you know Strava can track mileage of individual parts?

Digging around in the settings within Strava, I came across this feature which allows you to log various components of your bike, and therefore keep tabs on the mileage of individual parts.
I mentioned it to a few guys on my Sunday club run and nobody seemed to be aware of it.
Here's a quick video/blog explaining how to use it and why you might want to.

I found this a while ago - and it's really good! I've told a few friends about it as well - and they've been surprised as well.
I haven't yet retired any of the parts I changed in January (chain, brake pads, cassette) - so I don't know how that side of it all works.
I also need to have a play around with different wheels - not that I have used anything other than winter wheels yet - but once things get nicer, it would be great to see if you can swap wheels on the bike easily etc. to log each wheels usage? Suppose that might get complex though - each wheel and each tyre would ideally be logged separately.
I may be wanting too much from it there. But it's a brilliant little hidden feature for sure.0 -
This is cool, just had a look at it and added the wheel i had replaced the other day. Good way of keeping track of everything.0

I had a little look into the whole wheel thing - seems to be not possible (you can't "unretire" something). So it's pretty good for consumables such as chains, cables etc. - but a bit trickier once you start using different wheelsets (as many people will once summer arrives etc.).
Maybe if more people start using the service (which no-one knows about), then they may turn some development time onto the component tracking.

I'd wondered about that too, but it doesn't seem capable at this point in time of allowing a switch between parts - wheels perhaps being the best example. Thanks for the zendesk link. Some good ideas there - I like the concept of logging items "on the shelf" which would allow you to track the mileage of wheels, even if used across different bikes.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they develop it further.

#annoyed. I sent this as a suggestion to Garmin well over a year ago now. I still prefer Garmin Connect over Strava but I may change my mind before long.0

I still use both. You can simplify the process of uploading to both by using garminsync.

Last year my right leg did 3000miles but my left one only seemed to manage 2000.0

Only anti-clockwise routes, perhaps?0 -

I dont bother faffing around with such pedantic crap. I just replace parts when they wear out to be honest. Each to their own.0
