On my commute...

20 mile round trip, fairly flat, only 1 serious hill, about 15 or 16 mph average, I'm about 73kg

I'm guessing 600 at best? (30 per mile)

Thanks for any help

  • Hi.

    Prob not far off.

Measuring myself, (78kg) on the same length journey yesterday (+hill) I used 800 kJ. Steady commute speed.

Now to be considered for calorie counting!

Thanks - what did you use to measure?

  • It can vary though as it is often the calories burnt after the exercise that don't count as your body tries to recover and restore your body to its pre-exercise state.

As a guess I'd say your not far off BTW.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Calorie measurement via bike computer, phones, GPS, slimmers-r-us websites are all notoriously inaccurate so don't believe anything they say.

I like to believe the gym bike at work when it's telling me I'm burning calories at the rate of 1200 an hour, but the only measurement I trust is the only one that matters - the sure-fire long term observation of whether or not I'm burning more calories than I eat.
  • A late response, a Powertap.
