Sunglasses!

My old, very cheap, glasses have finally given up the ghost after several years worth of use. The only gripe I have is that they steam up easily. I am happy to spend some money (say up to £100?) on new glasses if they steam up less. Are there any recommendations or will all glasses steam up? If so, I'll get another cheap pair. Only stipulation is that they need to have clear lenses.

Thanks in advance, Freebs.

screwfix direct, most under a tenner :-) Summer is here next week so shouldn't steam up.

I have to comment on the clarity of lenses on cheap/expensive sunglasses. I originally began life on the bike with a cheap pair off amazon which hit the cupboard once I bought some Oakley Jawbones. I recently sold the Jawbones as I am changing possibly to Radars and until they arrive had to resort back tothe cheap jobs.

Today was a good test as it was raining, they steamed up, water did not bead off them and the clarity was appalling. I had to clean them at every light just to make them better.

The Jawbones, excellent vision water rolled off them and only steamed up when stopping, think this was an issue with jawbones though.

Really think the more £££ are worth it for the better protection of your eyes and quality of frames and of course lenses. Obviously don't have to go right up to Oakleys, there are other good brands. I am also considering Salice for my next pair.

Screwfix "glasses" are safety glasses, can't see oakley jawbones being any "safer" :-)

"cheapo" cycling glasses can be just rubbish and not pass any sort of safety regulations etc.

Considered those but I am leaning more towards the shape of the 004's.

I guess it comes down to what you want the glasses for, if you want full sun protection, to an extent to look good, sturdy build and something built for cycling then you would have to go expensive.

If you simply want something to protect your eyes from flying shrapnel then screwfix will do.

Hmmm. This is true, but they are designed for impact resistance not UV protection or clarity. So obviously the cycling specific items may not resist impact as well.

Safety glasses - Good for stopping the arse of a wasp :D Not so great for not misting up and giving optimum vision etc.

I prefer to stick with things that are designed for the given application.

Edit: Damn Gooz beat me to it

Not quite, Oakley website is 100% from every kind of UV UAV or any other form of radiation that can come out of the sun.

Plus styling wise I think Oakley just shade this round ;)

You dont work for Screwfix do you?

No mate, I just like paying a tenner if they drop onto the floor :-)

EDIT After my oakley jawbones bought for 70 quid at a cycling show did just that.

Radars, all day everyday. Tried cheap options and other not cheap options. Love my radars, best glasses ever.

Although the arms are too long on mine, but I think the new ones fix this.

True, I do like the look of Radars, but cant justify paying full whack for them.

Get some M Frames then. You can get a pair from £84 from Cyclestore. Probably the best sunnies that Oakley have ever made!

(Well, both Pro Ms are better, but you can't get them anymore)

Don't pay full whack for them. I didn't there's an Oakley outley in york that have a dodgy looking website. My radars were £90odd quid IIRC. Just in shitty colours.

'Bolle Safety glasses' on ebay for cheap pair.
    or
Rudy Project Impact X photochromic-clear lenses in frame style of choice, for not cheap.

I have various Oakleys but they lack any adjustability, and if you have a smaller head, look a bit stupid. Also their transition lenses are nowhere near as good as Rudy Project ones.

    Obviously IMO ^

Screwfix bought. They are no different from what I've been using, cost a tenner and will do me for the summer. Will keep saving for the oakleys!

    Cheers, Freebs.

I got a pair of cheap glasses from Screwfix - Bolle - they are awful, distort my vision when riding.
