but still - even at 25% liability its cheaper to let him nick the bike. Morally wrong though, better just to decapitate him and get your money's worth.

For anyone considering it. Occupiers Liability Act 1984 expands the required duty of care to trespassers..

    However...
sect 5 and 6 give some flexibility, though daftly I think you need some warning signs if you are going down the "active" security route.
  • Well house move is coming along nicely just need the sellers to pull their fingers out. Brother has his CNC machine up and running for the internal bolts to be made up & collected this weekend.

All the other physicals are going to satisfy my insurers conditions. Still have a few options on what to do with the garage door as could internally bolt/lock and use the side door which is find for the bikes as don't want to leave them standing outside alone so can wheel them in. Plus could still use the garage door by unlocking from the inside which gets me brownie points with the other half if she wants to put her car in the garage & makes getting my motor bike out OK to.

Think the smoke cloak is a good idea as we recommend them at work but mainly to commercial customers, but need to think about how its fitted/alarmed etc first.

Thanks for the all the responses its put my mind at rest that I have not overlooked anything major & with another bike on the way too feel quite happy with what I'm doing.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.
  • Possibly but then thought they might do this & nick the rest of my stuff too

Put a magnet on both doors and one single pir. If a door opens it will set the alarm off and if they cut a hole through, the pir will pick them up.

You don't have to be qualified to install (there are no formal, qualifications in security systems as such)but if you know an alarm engineer, get them to do it! Also consider a sound bomb in there, it's painfully to be around when going off!

A dialler is good if your panel can take one, can call you or you could go down the monitored route if unsubscribe to redcare or something similar.
  • Had looked at door sensors, but off this weekend and will catch up with my mate and chat it through with him.

If I was going to go with autodialler (which being a bit of sado I know quite a bit about) would probably just go monitored which may be an option long term but happy with bells only to start with in addition to the physicals being up to scratch.
