Does anyone have any tips for installing Ultra-Torque BB cups without damaging them? I've done 3 installs now, all with the proper Campag UT-BB130 and have not managed to install once without scratching up the cups. Last time I even tried a thin cloth between the cups and the BB tool but it slipped several times and chewed up the finish. Unfortunately it was the black SuperRecord cups so it's even more obvious.

  • The alloy is soft... Do what you can

  • I recently fitted a set using the Park tool and had no issues ...
  • I was pondering the Birzman tool which seems to be much deeper than the Campag tool and so less likely to slip but it's galling when that hunk of metal cost over £20

Used 3 turns of elec. tape last night and still marked them :(
Using a marker pen on something that has only been out of the packet 30 mins just does not seem right.
Particularly as I only got the black cups for a black frame (fitting the seals from an old set of Record cups)

As others I have never managed to install these with the Campag tool without marking the cups.

It is a cup it has a few marks on it big deal. All alloy cups get that to a ceratin extent. I have not found Campagnolo cups to be any worse than shimano, Race face or Token cups with my tools.
