just had my first go at gorilla tape tubeless conversion, all the things i've read suggest it should be straight forward but mine refuse to inflate. So far i've added a second layer of tape and soapy water to get them on the bead but they arent having any of it. I haven't added the sealant yet cos i cant get them onto the beads. I am using whyte wheels with maxxis high roller tyres. any words of wisdom except the obvious buy a conversion kit etc etc welcome....

Homemade compressor should do the job0

Is there a guide for making this compressor at home??0 -
i am using a compressor but the ghetto thing looks wicked. I need some valves though. I will try adding sealant first and hope it seals enough to get them on the beads.Giant TCR

asbsolutely - worth its weight in gold
luckily it doesn't weigh much0 -
I tried a ghetto gaffa approach. Ran into loads of problems mainly to do with the rims. The valve hole wasn't drilled perfectly round and I couldn't get a good seal around the valve, despite using proper stans tubeless ones. Had a small ding in the tyre which kept leaking air at around the 35psi too. The problem with the gaffa I ran into though was that the bead kept 'scrunching' it up, scarping it from the well and shoulders. Good luck getting it done - I couldn't.0

I had a set of wheels that wouldn't even seal with a rim strip, not on the Stans compatible list admittedly... I had to tape the rim with a few layers of electrical tape, then put the strip on top - it worked fine after that.0

my personal opinion on the gorilla tape approach is that one should never bother with the gorilla tape approach, unless:
1 rims are tubeless ready
and
2 tyres are tubeless ready
if either aren't, the bead seal will be weak, and the split inner tube method is better
YMMV0 -
still no joy, going to try the split tube method.Giant TCR

What size donor inner tube would members recommend for 29" wheels?Planet X Kaffenback 2
