The promotion video doesn’t make much of the cobbles of the Appia Antica; I suppose that unfortunately means they are only including the ’easier’ bits. Some stretches are far worse than Paris-Roubaix.

The video below shows some of the last 45 Km, including a couple of the included cobbled stretches.

It was on a cobbled stretch towards the end that Mottet broke away to win the (more or less same race) G.d.Lazio in 1989.

But the setting for the finish is good – round the Colosseum and then that long wide boulevard. It also has cobbles but smoothish ones like the Champs-Elysees, and no incline.

I prefer Lazio/Roma to the Strade Bianchi – riding the Strade Bianchi is interesting as part of stage race, but as a one-day, depending on the weather, it can start to resemble an easy cyclocross – why has Kreuziger never won it?
  • Valverde is racing and in fine form. It is also the first time he has raced in Italy for years and years. How funny would it be if he won.

    Hilarious.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.
