Thinking of putting duct tape over the vents in my shoes as part of trying to improve the warmth a little.
I already wear Woolie Boollies and overshoes. Think it might work?

When I was in the Army we used to use a brand called SealSkinz and if they got wet they would stay warm. They do gloves and socks and other items but I had gloves socks and lasted a long time. They are not to thick but keep heat in quite well so that mite help.0 -
Taped up mine last week, worked a little and kept any water out. It may make a slight difference depending on your show0
-
I taped mine then got rained on. The water came in through the vents on the top of the shoe and wouldn't drain out. I tore the tape off as I rode and water poured of the front. It was slightly warmer until it rained just take it off as soon as it starts raining.0

Yup, tape mine up for winter, certainly seems to keep my feet a bit warmer combined with overshoes.0
-
Yes, forgot to mention I'm combining this with overshoes0

i tape the vents in the bottom to stop water getting in, the other vents are covered ok by the overshoesmy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0

If you are wearing thick socks and overboard, yet still getting cold or numb feet, are you sure it's the cold and not circulation?0 -

Must be going back a hell of a long time to be the Catering Corps. Part of the RLC now. Think it stands for Retards, Lorry Drivers and Chefs.0 -

I filled the sole vents on my winter shoes with silicone sealant (like for sealing around your bath). Waterproof booties stop wind and water up top so no filling from above0

I managed to find some insoles that are reflective on one side (keep that side down) seem to work for me"It never gets easier, you just go faster"0

Where are the vents on the bottom of the shoe?? Looks like solid plastic to me...0

Overshoes combined with toe warmers when it's really cold. Works for me.0
-
Are the vents the same shape/size in all shoes?
If so surely a marketing opportunity.
As possibly like others I came back from today's ride and my toes were frozen (rest of feet warm), despite wearing two pairs of socks, one wicking and the other woolie boolies. So I reckon it's the vents rather than any thing else.0 -
Just bought some toe covers but will tape up holes too.0

Overshoes on top, and tape over the forward facing ducts on the sole works well for me.Mangeur0

Overshoes and a descent pair off socks does the job for me..................

got some BBB overshoes cheap from ribble and they have been fine. Seem to cover all the vents on the sole of my spesh shoes.0 -
I find I need neoprene overshoes as well as gaffer tape over my shoe vents to stop my toes freezing in winter rides. Think I must have poor circulation, its always the fingertips and toes that go. Overshoes and gaffer help down to +3 or 4 but lower than that and they soon go numb.
For the hands I got some very cheap thin glove liners from Decathlon and they work really well under a pair of mid-range winter gloves.0
