Out of interest what is the warranty period for Wilier bikesThe warranty is for Carbon frames only, I tried to register my Montegrappa online and Alu frames are not covered.
I would imagine the individual components are not covered as Wilier only bolt them on their frames.
Maybe that applies with the extended warranty offer but was trying to get info about their standard warranty for all bikes, and components.
  • Standard warranty is 2 years for frames and 1 year for parts. Not counting wear and tear parts obviously.

You wont get anywhere unless your willing to take the retailer to court under the sale of goods act claiming not fit for purpose and that is likely gonna cost more than £50.

How do i know this I had a headset fail on my Pinarello after 5 months and about 500 miles, Yello and LBS claimed that it is not covered by warranty as wearable part and would have non of my claims of breach of sale of goods act. LBS wouldnt even sell me replacement part and cost value and very kindly offered to fit for free(5 min job woopee) In the end I sourced my own replacement brearings off ebay for £8, which is slightly cheaper than the £35 LBS were asking. I took them in to LBS who had my bike and said thank you for offering to fit for free, here you go fit these.

Just out of interest, what groupset is it?

Wondering if it is Campag Power Torque they may not have the tools and will need to buy them and have decided to, shadily, try and pass off some of the extortionate cost onto you!! :|

If it's the same as mine it's 105 groupset but with FSA Gossamer chainset and FSA Mega-exo BB
  • If you have failed to maintain a bike in any capacity, and something fails after 6 months with the weather we have had I would say this is definitely not a warranty case, and the shop could consider discounting some parts or maybe free labour, but to expect the whole thing to be free is crazy. If it was me, I would ask about discounting, but if not, then oh well, it was most likely my fault it failed.

People just need to start accepting blame for their own failings, and stop trying to get something free from every company when they havn't kept up their side of the deal. It only makes prices for everything go up!

Interested to see this thread being bumped especially as I was OP, as an update for those interested. I contacted Wilier who did not reply back to me (not very encouraging I know!!) but did contact FSA who are more than happy to look at the BB and replace if necessary. I still need to do this but at least there is hope if the BB has failed!!

I bought a Wilier triestina Competizione in August 2012 and my BB practically fell off after the fastening bolt failed(prob not what it's called). I went back to the LBS and they agreed that the BB should not need replacing after such a short time. The weather/salt might speed up the the need for a replcement but within such a short time seems ridiculous. I didn't even bother contacting Wilier as i figured the LBS has most likely assembled the bike and they had serviced it for me. Might not be a problem with the Wilier frame build but the the components of choice? I'd be hitting up the LBS.

550 miles is a very short distance for a BB to go unless it's a dirt cheap poorly sealed one, or one not fitted correctly/damaged whilst fitting (you'll probably never know is this was the case though). £50 is a lot for a replacement BB and any decent LBS that you bought the bike from should be swallowing the labour cost as it's the first service and something needs replacing well ahead of it's expected lifetime.
The current £30 BB (shimano) in my winter bike is over 2 years old now and has had it's fair share of wet winter rides (including a couple where on sections of flooded road the water was deeper than the BB ).
It's not a Wilier warranty job but if the LBS won't at least waive the labour costs then take this opportunity to learn how to fit a BB yourself and buy it + tool online and only use your LBS when you have no other option.
