hi guys,
not so much a question post more of a story...
i recently switched to road bikes from mtb to do my daily commute, around 25 miles in total, and how i have fallen in love with road cycling. As someone who had never had experience in this form of cycling i dismissed it when coming to buy my first bike after a long sabbatical and paid dearly for that, with hauling a 22kg bike to university and back every day. however i rectified this mistake by going to Evans Cycles and purchasing myself my first ever road bike, a Specialized Allez 2013 model. I have utterly fallen in love with my bike and road cycling on the whole and have since signed up to do a 100 mile ride for the charity Joining Jack in September. I am looking forward so much to the training and the completion of this task and cant wait for future challenges.
i realise this post is a bit random but i thought i needed to share this with other road cyclists.

First off congrats on your 100 miler, it's like 1st time having sex you always remember it unless your drunk and I mean really drunk where you try it on with her early on in the night and it's game on later in the night and a few drinks down the line she sees your a mess she goes out with her mates you sleep with her sister, that night her sister goes home you wake up the next day and send her a txt saying sex was great only to find out she didnt have sex with you her sister did and her dads going to break your neck now. Anyway Congrats lol
I did the same thing I started on MTB then had an urge to do some road cycling, I got my first road bike which was a trek 5.2 and at the time it was 3 years old but well maintained. I did a couple of 25 milers then did some 50's and new I loved it, and a regular session on the weekend now would be to do 100 miles every saturday with the odd 50 miler somewhere in the week. I still do MTB but not near to what I used to. I am going to do the RAT (Race Against Time) this year which is LEJOG in 5-6 days and minimal kit which is what I want. I have done LEJOG already did 1000 mile in 9 days and loved it but I had Panniers on my Trek 4.9 lol but have to say it handled them well. I averaged 15mph throughout the ride in bad conditions so I was happy with that howver I did cheddar gorge with them on and the hill was lovely and steep and I wanted to attack it but was hard so 1 day I'm going back their to hammer that hill as I love my hills.
But really hope you like the roads mate and hope it keeps getting better for you. goodluck0 -
Fair play to you. Enjoy the bike and good luck with the ride. Got my first 100 miler in June and really looking forward to it.0

Poetry in motion, nah thats not my story thank goodnes, my friend owns the right to it. He had a night out with a girl hes been trying to date for ages got so drunk she left him in the club he met her sister who fancied him they slept together and she went home in the night he got up in the morning and text the girl he thought he had sex with to say amazing time only to find he actually slept with her sister and now her dad and brother are going to kill him. I wouldn't mind they look nothing alike. nothing like a bit of humor to brighten the day0 -

@ gareth2134 -- Top tip: take some punctuation lessons before you give up the day job! Your failure to use apostrophes or capitalise words after a period could be addressed at the same time.
Fail.

Well thats fine Torqu if it bothers you that much you can pop down to my address and give me lessons if you like in english. Also if you want to challenge intellect because that may be your strength then I shall look at your weaknesses and point a few out, however this can not be done as your a keyboard warrior who's focus is on addressing pointless things. I am pretty sure people can make sense of what I have written and I am doing it off a very bad blackberry so spelling and grammer may not be best as I have to keep scrolling up and down but I will take not for future reference now that it's been highlighted.
Ride strong
Oh P.s can see you have only done 2 posts so I see your a troll so block and ignore for future now enjoy your time on here.0 -
100 miles really isn't that difficult; anyone (who is motivated & determined) could do it after 1 month of sensible training.... It's not about how much distance you cover in training, it's about the time in the saddle, ride for 10 hours a week in the month prior to the 100 miler, make sure you have at least 1 full day rest before the century and you'll be fine.0

Hope it goes well and its good to see someone else inspired to take up road cycling. I'm yet to do a 100 but building upto it.oes it have to be all in one go with minimal stopping to count or can a conveniently located cafe be used 50 Miles in?0

I am planning to do 100 this year but will need to factor in some stops along the way so that I can log in here and critique the standard of punctuation and grammar ...0

I randomly decided to do my first 100 miles last Saturday. 17.9mph average. Very chuffed with myself.0

18mph, relative beginner presumably, 100 miles? You should be chuffed with yourself!
Don't encourage him... we've got to live with him“You may think that; I couldn’t possibly comment!”

Completed my first century late last year. My Garmin ran out of charge at 86 miles, and I lost my way. Then it got dark and began to pour with rain. My energy levels dropped through the floor and I rolled the last ten miles home at about 5 mph on the flat. Every tiny rise in the road seemed like a mountain. I calculated the missing Garmin miles later from a map and found I'd completed around 113 miles.
If I could have found somewhere to lie down and rest without attracting attention from passing cars, I may well have spent the night by the roadside.0 -
thanks derek, that means alot.0

Hi, I'm doing the same ride in September, did my first 100 last year (Blackpool to Brid) and this one is a lot flatter, looking forward to it.
See you there!0
