I'm looking for a new shock for my downhill bike.

My Manitou 4 way swinger air has just about had it, its like a pogo stick and is making very unhealthy noises. I’ve figured that it’s an old second hand shock that has had a fair amount of abuse over the last 6 or 7 months since I bought it, and for the trouble its worth I may as well buy a new shock. I know eff all about shocks and how they work so I’m asking for some advice. I'm pretty sure my eye to eye length x shaft travel was 222 x 70.

Are there any new shocks would people recommend, ideally between £200 and £300.

Can't go far wrong with a fox van RC. Depends how light you want to go.

Cheers, what do you mean "depends how light I want to go"?

I had a Van RC. Really good, reliable shock and with a Push tune it feels like a top quality shock.

I've also been offered a second hand Cane creek double barrel without coil and I've said id pay £200 for that. The guy wanted close to £275 but I said theres new shocks sub £300 available. So basically i'm not a hundred percent sure what to go for because the CCDB does look good. hmm

EDIT: If i were to go for the van rc, bike discount do it for £286 without bushing and coil whereas TFtuned do it for £279 WITH coil and bushings. I'm not missing something here am I? £70 cheaper??

You might want to check but I think TF Tuned will service the shock and give it some base settings to suit your bike, weight & riding style before they deliver it. I know they used to do that with forks.
The CCDB is a really excellent shock and very reliable. The later model with the cross slots in the adjuster screws (instead of the earlier single slot) have slightly better dampers. The rebound damping is a little limited on the CCDB so forget it if you need heavier than a 500lb spring. I had to get my rebound damper modified to work properly when I needed a heavier spring.
