I know Vikings don't have a good reputation, and that generally speaking when something seems to good to be true it usually is, but this still seems like a ridiculous spec for the price.

Exactly how awful are these bikes?

That looks pretty impressive! Although I'm not clued up enough to tell you about the spec I can tell you I've had a Viking since July and I'm very pleased with how it's going!!

Which model do you have? Basically I'm looking for an entry-level bike, so I'm wondering if the criticisms of the Viking (and I'm sure there are plenty) are more valid for those looking for a serious racer and wouldn't apply to a newbie, or if this thing is literally going to fall apart after a few hundred miles. I see it has a carbon fork, and I'm very sure that poor carbon is inferior to quality aluminium.

I have the 'San Remo' I'd say it's even more entry-level than the one you're looking at! Everything on it runs smoothly and it feels sturdy! I've also seen all the bad stuff that gets said about Viking but for a newbie Getting in to Road biking i think it's just fine!
