Hi all,
Have been looking again at swapping my fork on my Hardrock sport disk (2010), have found a: Rock Shox Recon Silver TK Solo Air Suspension Fork from CRC for £140 which i know will improve the riding considerably, just wanting to know how much it would be to swap them over in the LBS?
As i need to factor this in for overall price.
Thanks
G

Have you considered doing it yourself? Fork swaps are quite a simple procedure and iirc theres a decent write up on park tools if you get stuck.
If not is it worth calling the LBS? They should be able to give you a quote for something as straight forward as that.0 -
I am nicely put..useless at any bike related maintenance, so would give it to the shop, just good to have an estimate on price for my budget.0

You really can't go wrong with the how to guides... it is one of the easiest jobs to do on a bike!0

Fork swaps are easy, but I can accept some people don't 'do' maintenance, hecjk theer is a long time commuter on the commuter forum who can't index gears!
I would guess at about £15-20, any more is taking the wee wee. It's a 15-20 minute job.
Join a local club and someone would almost certainly do it for you for a pint.....I would.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
But you would be drunk and hash it up.I don't do smileys.

would i need to purchase "said" tools to do the swap???0
-
only if you dont have a set of allen keys and a flat headed screwdriver.0
-
You'll need a mallet type thing too. Possibly a sfn setter and hacksaw.0

See its starting to sound painfull now, i can see fingers being chopped off already (much to the delight of the wife)0

you dont need the hacksaw to fit the fork providing you have enough spacers. Once you have fitted the fork you can use different spacers to get the stem where you want it and then if you feel the need you can cut it down to size (or get your lbs to do it for a small fee). If you dont want to cut it down you could always put a spacer or two on top of the stem to get the height right (also helps when selling forks as not all bikes can use cut down steerers )
Depending on your current bike/headtube length you may not need to cut it down.0 -

£20 that sounds nice and affordiable (and get to keep my fingers), but as chez has pointed out the forks wont fit my bike, so i need to find some that will, without breaking the bank!!

On another thread these were being recommended... a little more than the Recons. The 'difficult' bit about swapping forks is seating the StarFangled Nut and swapping the Crown Race from your old fork... my LBS did mine for me, along with a couple of other small jobs - and all for under £20.Vitus Sentier VR+ (2018) GT Grade AL 105 (2016)

So are these forks any good, I mean how do they compare against the recon silver?
Still I am sure they will be better than the piece of shyte suntour forks I have0 -
I have tested both - they are both excellent, but the Marathon shades it due to its lighter weight and better damping.0
